May 02, 2024

Dear Parents,

Once again we thank you for your flexibility with regards to the adverse weather and continuing with school online. We are also thankful that learning can continue while also prioritizing safety.

Thank you for taking time to meet with your children’s teachers last week at the PTCs. We are encouraged by the meetings as we continue to strengthen our partnership with parents and students.

Re-enrollment is open. Be sure to re-enroll your children for the next school year using instructions below.

Stay up to date with upcoming events and dates, and enjoy the week’s highlights using the link at the end of the newsletter.

Re-enrollment 2024-25

Re-enrollment season has begun! The process will take place on PowerSchool via the parent portal. You may log into your account, and there is a section for re-enrolling your child(ren) easily and electronically. Here are instructions on how to access the portal.

There are three steps to complete the re-enrollment process:
Step 1 - Settle the remaining overdue balance for 2023-24.
Step 2 - Complete PowerSchool re-enrollment process: https://powerschool.lifepluslearning.com/public/
Step 3 - Make the re-enrollment deposit of 2000 AED for 2024-25 to secure a space for your child.
The deadline for re-enrollment is June 30.

Please take a look at the 2024-25 Tuition and Fees document here. Note that there is a 5% discount if fees are paid in full.
Please contact the Finance team at finance@tws-rak.org for any account related questions.

Personal Finance Sales Day

The Middle School Personal Finance elective class will host a Sales day on Thursday, May 9th. Students will sell food and drinks to all students (Elementary and Secondary) as part of a project creating products to sell, building a budget, marketing, and looking at profits and losses.

Students will sell from 09:00-11:00am and items for sale will cost between 1aed and 15aed.

Please send money with your child so that they can support this student initiative.

(This initiative has been approved by the MOE to develop real-life application skills in our students.)

Reading Month

This week we’ve had some very exciting highlights. We had guest author Ms. Toyin Akanni, who read to our EC and grade 1 students from her books Barki and Brave and Barki and the Forest Fire. And all of Secondary was treated to an interview and reading from our very own Ms. Bekiwe Hlongwane, author of the book Giver of Life.

We have also had some parent guest readers in the Arabic native and non-native classes, with a special visit from Dr. Naguib Abdulla Al Shamsi who met with the seniors. This program will extend to next week too!

And then next Friday, May 10th, we will have Book Character Day. Students can dress up like their favorite book character. They must bring the book that goes with their character.

Parent Council: Coffee morning

We are pleased to invite you to our next Coffee Morning on May 15, where we will have parent and nutritionist Dr. Suhad Al Shawabkeh share her expertise with us and answer questions. More details to follow.

Middle School musical:

Wizard of Oz

We’re getting excited for the MS musical on May 17th and 18th! Save the date, and look out for when tickets will be made available.

End of the Year concerts and art exhibits

We are excited to have our second End of the Year concerts and art exhibits on May 30 for Secondary and June 6 for Elementary. Our students are diligently working to prepare music for this celebration.

There is also an opportunity for those who are taking private lessons or who are working on their own music to audition for a few solo spotlights during the concert. If your child would like to audition, they can submit their video to Ms. Jiwon or Ms. Kristi through email or canvas (Jiwon.an@tws-rak.org or Kristi.digman@tws-rak.org) for consideration before May 3. Student videos that demonstrate excellence, creativity, and hard work will be given highest priority as there are limited spots for solos.

Safety Week

Our seniors spoke at assembly each morning this week about various safety topics, giving tips and pointers on how to be safe in our daily lives.

Topics included:

  • Road safety, including how and when to cross the road, and how our staff helps with dismissal every day;
  • Safety in the car, including wearing your safety belt, not playing in the car, and what to do when you sit in the front of the car;
  • Personal hygiene, which includes washing your hands, brushing your teeth, how you present yourself regarding your hair and nails; and
  • Cyber safety, including topics like not sharing personal information with strangers and being SMART about certain websites.

Looking ahead:

Last day of school & final exams

The last day of the 2023-24 school year will be Wednesday, June 26. Final exam week for Secondary will be from June 20 – 21 and June 24 – 26. Please note that exams may not be taken earlier than this. Please refer to Canvas and the calendar for all exam related information.
