Dear Parents

Happy World Teachers’ Day! "The teachers we need for the education we want," is the theme for this year. We’re so grateful for the passion and care our teachers have for our students at WellSpring. Our teachers and staff are the heart of our school, and we’re thrilled to express our gratitude today for all the ways they are committed to the growth of our students.

It’s a new month, and with it comes new activity in the life of the school. We have our first athletics tournament happening next week, an exciting reading competition, our first coffee morning of the year and plenty more dates to diarize.

Quality for Life Awards: Connection

EC and Elementary students were recognized for displaying the quality of Connection last month, and received certificates during assembly today! Secondary students will be awarded their certificates in assembly tomorrow.

Health Topic for October:

Healthy Eating Habits

Tips from the Nurse:

  • Eat a balanced diet: include fruits and vegetables.
  • Try to limit the amount of sugar during the day. Avoid things like candy, chocolate, cookies and cake, and eat an apple instead.
  • Don’t skip breakfast!
Reading Competition:

The Chevron Readers’ Cup

The Chevron Readers’ Cup is a reading competition for schools, held annually by the Emirates Literature Foundation. Teams of students read a selection of books to compete for the Chevron Readers’ Cup. The key idea of the competition is to have fun, learn a few things along the way and enjoy reading! You can read more on the website here.

For Elementary, only our grade 5’s are competing. To determine who would represent our school, students had to read two books on our myON platform, complete the comprehension quizzes, and write two summaries on the books. Ms. Sarah was looking for students who could manage their time well, follow all of the directions, and complete the assignment. We have 6 students who met all of the requirements.

The students are busy reading the first book, Leeva at Last by Sara Pennypacker. Ms. Beki and Ms. Sarah are reading the books with the students to provide support.

Secondary have a slightly different selection process and will start their first book next week. Stay tuned for team updates!

Netball Match Next Week

12 October, vs RAK American Academy (U12).

Come and support our WellSpring Wolves U12 Netball girls next week Thursday at 3:15pm. The teams will meet in the WellSpring gym. They will play a round-robin tournament where each team will play each other, and the team with the best record will be the winner.

Professional Development Days

Please note that we have two Professional Development (PD) days coming up soon. There will be no school for students on Friday, 13 October and Monday, 16 October. Staff set aside this time to learn new skills to implement in their classrooms, collaborate with others, and further develop their expertise.

Parent’s Council:

Parent Coffee Morning

On Tuesday, 17 October, the Parents Council will host our first Coffee Morning of the year.
Time: 8:30 to 10am.
We are excited to have Grade 9 parent Shaikha Mona Al Qassimi talk to us on “Emirati Culture”.
All are invited!

School Photo Days

We will be having our class photos taken from 18-20 October. Class schedules will be sent out closer to the time. Please make sure that your children are neat and tidy for these days.
