Inside WellSpring: How we celebrate cultural diversity
Culture Day
Culture Day is one of the ways we celebrate our diversity at WellSpring - an annual event that honors the rich tapestry of traditions, customs, and backgrounds that make up our school community. Culture Day is more than just a celebration, it is a powerful reminder of the beauty of inclusivity and the importance of understanding different cultures.
At WellSpring, we are deeply committed to fostering a culturally diverse and inclusive community. As a vibrant international school in Ras Al Khaimah, we take pride in providing transformative, holistic education that nurtures globally minded individuals. Our mission is to offer the highest-quality education delivered by world-class teachers while embracing and understanding both local culture and all the cultures that make up our community.
The spirit of Culture Day
Culture Day at WellSpring was initiated as a way to bring our diverse student body together, fostering mutual respect and appreciation for each other’s heritage. Our goal is to create an environment where every student feels valued and represented. Through this event, we strengthen our community bonds by sharing experiences, learning from one another, and celebrating the unique perspectives that each culture brings.
Highlights of the celebration
A. Cultural performances and showcases
One of the most exciting aspects of Culture Day is the lineup of performances that showcase the talents and traditions of our students. From dances and musical performances to artistic displays representing various cultures, the event is a visual and auditory feast.
Different sections of the school are assigned to represent and showcase various regions of the world, allowing students to deepen their appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures. This immersive experience broadens their global perspective and fosters a sense of connection to the wider world. Additionally, students have the opportunity to proudly share their own cultural heritage and traditions, creating a vibrant and enriching celebration of diversity.
Performing my traditional dance in front of my friends was an unforgettable experience. It made me proud to share my culture with them.
B. Food from around the world
No cultural celebration would be complete without food! Our Culture Day 2025 featured an extraordinary array of international cuisines, allowing attendees to savor flavors from around the globe. From local delights to Asian specialties, African delicacies, American favorites, and European treats, the culinary experience is always both educational and delicious.
History of Culture Day
WellSpring’s first-ever Culture Day took place in March 2016. At the time, Ms. April—then a teacher and now one of our principals—was in charge of organizing the food. Parents were asked to contribute dishes from their home countries, and Ms. April set up a table in her classroom to collect them. However, she quickly realized she had underestimated the response. The overwhelming amount of food pouring in required an entirely new space to accommodate it all! This enthusiasm for sharing and celebrating global cuisine has remained a strong tradition for a decade.
Culture Day 2016
In 2019, unexpected rain threatened to disrupt the festivities. Yet, in just 30 minutes, students, staff, and parents came together to move the entire event indoors—decorations and all—showcasing the incredible spirit of community at WellSpring.

Then came the challenges of 2020 and 2021, when COVID-19 put a temporary pause on in-person celebrations. Culture Day was limited to a few virtual activities on Zoom, but the spirit of the event never faded. By 2022, Culture Day made its long-awaited return, though with some restrictions—parents couldn’t attend in person, but that didn’t stop them from sending in an abundance of food!
2017
Since then, Culture Day has continued to grow. With full participation restored in 2023, 2024, and now 2025, each year has built upon the last, expanding in scope and excitement. What began as a small but important school event has blossomed into a cherished annual tradition, celebrating the rich diversity of the WellSpring community.
Conclusion
Culture Day at WellSpring is more than just an event—it is a celebration of the values that make our school special. By embracing diversity, fostering inclusivity, and building meaningful connections, we prepare our students to thrive in an interconnected world. And it would not be possible without the enthusiastic participation of our parents, students and staff. We are grateful to continue to learn, love, and lead together!
