Highlights of the Week, March 21

Grade 3 poetry writing ✒️

Our grade 3 students have been writing poems in English Language Arts. They could choose an acrostic, alliteration, season or autobiography poem. They worked hard on their poems and then presented them in front of parents and classmates. What a great display of talent and hard work.

Grade 9 genetics lab 🧪🧬

Grade 9 did a DNA extraction lab using crushed strawberries. Using a buffer solution, they extracted the white, stringy precipitate containing the DNA and spooled it onto a rod.

World Down Syndrome Day 🧦

Today we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day by wearing mismatched socks!  Because chromosomes are shaped like ‘socks’ and people with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome, fun socks are an effective way to increase awareness. People with Down syndrome have an inherent right to be accepted and included as valued and equal members of the community.
